About the position

The Refugee Empowerment Caseworker plays a crucial role in assisting newly arrived refugees and other eligible populations enrolled in the Match Grant Program. This position focuses on helping clients achieve economic self-sufficiency within eight months of their arrival by providing case management, conducting orientations, and maintaining relationships with community partners. The caseworker will work closely with the Refugee Empowerment Coordinator and Resettlement Manager to ensure clients receive the necessary support and resources.

Responsibilities

  • Provide orientation to eligible clients on the Match Grant Program and complete the enrollment process.
  • Create individualized self-sufficiency plans for each employable adult and conduct periodic reviews of the plan to ensure progress in addressing barriers and reaching employment goals.
  • Communicate with the Resettlement Manager and Refugee Empowerment Coordinator to request initial and ongoing financial assistance for clients according to program guidelines.
  • Regularly communicate with clients to obtain needed documentation, including utility bills, paystubs, etc.
  • Travel in the community as needed to make vendor payments and meet with clients.
  • Manage a dynamic caseload and work collaboratively with internal and external members to meet client needs and program goals, while streamlining service provisions such as SNAP, Medicaid, WIC, and Social Security cards.
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of all reporting requirements, including database management, case noting, and electronic and physical file maintenance.
  • Occasionally assist clients with job applications, interviews, new hire paperwork, and employment follow-up.
  • Engage volunteers in case management work in coordination with the Community Engagement Specialist and Development Team.
  • Participate in all program meetings and staff development activities.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Vocational Services, Social Work, or related field or at least two years of experience in social work or the provision of other services in the refugee community is required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record, and be willing to use a personal vehicle in driving to various locations within the service area.
  • Proficient PC skills including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of a relevant language in addition to English is preferred, but not required.
  • Public speaking experience preferred.
