About the position

The Refugee Foster Care Therapist position is dedicated to providing mental health services to refugee and immigrant foster youth and their families. This role involves conducting assessments, delivering individual and group therapy, and offering crisis intervention as needed. The therapist will work closely with clients to establish therapeutic relationships and ensure holistic care through family involvement and consultative support.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and nurture therapeutic relationships with youth in the Refugee Foster Care program.
  • Conduct mental health assessments upon clients' arrival and every six months until discharge.
  • Provide one-on-one therapy to youth, including assessment, treatment goal creation, and documentation of progress.
  • Facilitate group therapy sessions to address the unique needs of the youth.
  • Offer family therapy sessions, collaborating with foster families for holistic well-being.
  • Provide consultative input concerning placement decisions and crisis intervention strategies.
  • Collaborate in determining the appropriate therapeutic level of care for foster families.
  • Actively participate in internal and community-provided training programs.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings to contribute insights and align with program goals.
  • Maintain on-call readiness to address critical needs when necessary.
  • Maintain thorough and compliant case files per all state and federal regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in social work or counseling from an accredited university.
  • Obtain LCSW Certification within two years of hire.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed treatment modalities.
  • Bilingual communication skills in English and another language spoken by clients (Spanish, Farsi, etc.) in both oral and written forms.
  • Advanced computer proficiency, effectively utilizing software tools such as Outlook and Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with teenagers, attachment, and gender-based violence.
  • Familiarity with the refugee and immigrant community.
