About the position

The Refugee Resettlement Case Manager at Acculturation for Justice, Access and Peace Outreach (AJAPO) plays a crucial role in supporting newly arriving refugees in the Greater Pittsburgh area. This position involves providing essential services for a period of 90 days, from pre-arrival preparations to post-arrival support, ensuring that refugees have the necessary resources and guidance to successfully integrate into their new environment. The Case Manager acts as an ambassador for AJAPO, delivering high-quality services and fostering a welcoming atmosphere for clients.

Responsibilities

  • Create pre-arrival files and make pre-arrival referrals with all necessary documentation.
  • Welcome refugees at the airport and support them to get to their new homes.
  • Provide timely post-arrival services to ensure that newly arriving refugees have living essentials.
  • Provide and support referrals to social security and welfare offices and health care providers.
  • Provide referrals to Employment and English as a Second Language (ESL) services.
  • Orient new refugees on the public transportation system and their new environment.
  • Conduct individualized self-sufficiency plans for each family member of newly arriving refugees.
  • Conduct cultural orientation and assessments for newly arriving refugees.
  • Perform required home visits during the 90 days (at least 4 visits).
  • Provide direct case management for newly-arrived refugees in accordance with resettlement guidelines.
  • Write and maintain accurate case notes and other documentation of services on-time.
  • Develop community contacts with other social service providers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Humanities, Education or similar degrees.
  • Three years or more of related applicable work experience with refugee and immigrant communities.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings or weekends as needed.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively use standard office equipment and software programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in other languages and cultures preferred.
  • Ability to conduct one-on-one advocacy and educational presentations.
