About the position

The Refugee Support Services Case Manager (RSS CM) serves as the primary contact within the Refugee Services Department, assisting clients in accessing services through various programs. The role focuses on developing practical service plans to help clients overcome barriers and achieve self-sufficiency. The RSS CM is responsible for regular communication with clients and collaboration with other department staff to ensure that clients' basic needs are met and progress is made towards securing employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide required services in a timely manner to San Diego Newcomer Project cases by meeting objectives.
  • Complete public assistance applications and assessments in the database within 15 - 30 days.
  • Create self-sufficiency plans (SSPs) by working directly with clients to understand their unique strengths and weaknesses.
  • Make referrals and connections to internal and external services, including ESL classes, employment activities, and medical appointments.
  • Maintain comprehensive, accurate, and up-to-date case files and case notes for all assigned cases.
  • Prepare case files for review and/or monitoring activities in coordination with the Quality Assurance team and funders.
  • Ensure accurate calculation of assistance levels and proper documentation of all disbursements made to clients.
  • Ensure clients provide required documents to receive cash assistance and document all interactions in case notes.
  • Comply with preparation of SSPs within a thirty (30) day time frame.
  • Work collaboratively with all team members and prepare weekly work reports to the Program Manager.
  • Participate in monthly desk audits and required trainings related to the San Diego Newcomer Project.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in social work or a related field preferred, or a minimum of two years of experience providing services to immigrant clients.
  • Knowledge of the cultural background of refugee and immigrant populations served by the department.
  • Familiarity with community resources available to assist refugees and immigrants.
  • Exemplary professional work habits verified by previous employers.
  • Commitment to the mission and values associated with the agency, including social justice and respect for others.
  • Ability to maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records and reports.
  • Bilingual in English and Haitian Creole strongly preferred, and/or Spanish; other second language fluency preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to present information effectively to clients and staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to use technology for scheduling and communication.
