About the position

Siemens Digital Industries Software is seeking a Regional Data Center Technician to join our team in Wilsonville, Oregon. This role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth operation of our data center facilities, which support a wide range of industries including automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing. As a leading provider of solutions for the design, simulation, and manufacture of products, we rely on our data centers to maintain the integrity and availability of our services. The technician will be responsible for server hardware management, datacenter management, and operations, ensuring that all systems are functioning optimally and efficiently. In the realm of server hardware management, the technician will plan and implement server installations, which includes preparation, installation, cabling, LAN configuration, OS installation, and post-configuration tasks. The role also involves providing hardware swap-outs for repairs and interacting with vendors for parts and service support, overseeing their onsite activities to ensure compliance with our standards. Datacenter management responsibilities include close collaboration with the facilities technical team to monitor and report incidents across all data center equipment, such as HVAC systems, UPS, generators, and electrical PDUs. The technician will also monitor and respond to hardware incidents across all data center IT equipment, including servers, filers, switches, and backup appliances. Participation in off-hours maintenance of facilities and IT systems is required, along with being part of an on-call rotation one week per month. In terms of operations, the technician will manage inbound tasks via a ticket tracking tool (ServiceNow), adhering to standard ITIL Change and Incident Management processes. A solid experience in RedHat/CentOS/SLES system administration and support is essential, along with scripting Linux administration tasks for automation, security, and hardening. The technician will also be responsible for documenting the Linux operating system and application patching processes and procedures, as well as managing and maintaining our enterprise backup solution (Cohesity).

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and respond to hardware incidents across all data center IT equipment including servers, filers, switches, and backup appliances.

Requirements

  • 2 years' experience in an IT system administration & support operational role, including operating system installation and troubleshooting.
  • 1+ year of experience working with virtual environments and deployments.
  • 1+ year of experience with Linux (Redhat, CentOS, SLES, etc.) installation, troubleshooting, and support.
  • Ability to follow technical written and verbal directions.
  • Ability to work well with various teams both local and remote including international.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office including Outlook.
  • Good communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.
  • Advanced hardware component troubleshooting skills (CPU, memory, motherboard, controllers, and disks) and replacement of components.

Nice-to-haves

  • Scripting (BASH, Perl, PowerShell) and process automation experience.
  • Network configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Experience managing and maintaining a highly available datacenter environment utilizing configuration management (DCIM) tools.
  • Familiar with ITIL operations.
  • Familiar with network storage systems (some or all: Network Appliance, Tintri Storage) and server automation and configuration management orchestration.
  • Familiar with Datacenter level backup processes and software.
  • Familiar with some or all: Building Management Systems, facilities monitoring tools, fire detection, and suppression systems.
  • Knowledge of alternate power supplies/generators and following emergency procedures and processes.
