About the position

The Northcentral Regional Design Technology Director at Gensler plays a pivotal role in driving the firm's digital transformation within the design technology and project delivery practices. This multifaceted position is designed for a disruptive technologist who is eager to innovate and influence the design landscape. The Director will provide regional technical leadership and strategic vision, working closely with project teams to implement advanced methodologies and technological solutions that enhance creativity and deliver impactful designs to clients. Reporting directly to the Global Director of Design Technology and the Northcentral Regional Managing Principal, the Director will leverage their soft skills, relationship-building abilities, and technical expertise to foster process innovation, optimization, and the implementation of digital platforms across the region. In this role, the Director will co-create a brand and purpose for Design Technology, serving as a Subject Matter Expert on Agile Digital Project Delivery. Responsibilities include developing and supporting Project Technology Execution Plans, implementing tools and workflows, and reducing waste through interoperability pipeline development. The Director will champion digital transformation and cultural change, collaborating with regional leaders to define requirements and priorities. Additionally, the role involves leading training initiatives, researching emerging technologies, and representing Gensler at industry events. The Director will also engage with design practitioners and contribute to firmwide collaboration within the design technology community.

Responsibilities

  • Co-drive a brand and purpose for Design Technology within the region
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert on Agile Digital Project Delivery to Project Teams
  • Develop, implement, and support Project Technology Execution Plans
  • Create and support tools, templates, and workflows for project delivery
  • Reduce waste through interoperability pipeline development for digital platforms
  • Champion digital transformation and cultural change throughout the region
  • Collaborate with Regional Design Technology leaders on requirements and priorities
  • Lead cultural, process-driven, and technical training in Design Technology
  • Research emerging technologies and define use-cases for implementation on projects
  • Represent the firm through speaking engagements, hackathons, and industry events
  • Lead software development for plug-ins and utilities with the software development team
  • Engage with Design Synergies and design practitioners throughout the region
  • Collaborate at a firmwide level with the design technology community

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
  • 12+ years of experience in the AEC/O space
  • Strong command of the Design Delivery process to fabrication/construction
  • Documented progressive growth and experience in leading/supporting Design Technology and innovative frameworks/workflows in project delivery
  • Articulate communicator with strong storytelling ability
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to listen and drive consensus through relationship building
  • Expert in design authoring technology platforms for Autodesk Revit and Navisworks
  • Expert in implementing and supporting design collaboration platforms such as BIM 360, Field, Docs, and NewForma
  • Expert in computational design platforms and visual programming: Rhino, Grasshopper, and Dynamo
  • Expert in simulation platforms that use Rhino/Grasshopper as a foundational 3D parametric engine
