About the position

The Regional Director of Operations at Southern Orthodontic Partners is a pivotal role responsible for providing operational leadership, direction, and administration to assigned practices within a designated geographic territory. This full-time, exempt position reports directly to the Vice President of Operations and is based in Houston, Texas. The primary focus of this role is to ensure operational effectiveness across the region while holding profit and loss (P&L) responsibility. The ideal candidate will embody flexibility, commitment, and a focus on improvement, while also being team-oriented, curious, and relationship-focused. They should be self-starters eager to learn new skills and engage with practice leadership to drive top-line growth initiatives, manage expenses, and execute operational plans effectively. In this role, the Regional Director will participate in the budget preparation process and implement practice improvements, overseeing local practice administrators and key team members. They will serve as a valuable resource in developing and executing practice-level goals, supporting the achievement of annual budgets, and ensuring the long-term success and growth of each practice and the region. A data-centric approach will be applied using key performance indicators (KPIs) to understand business and growth drivers, collaborating closely with the VP of Operations to implement performance improvement goals and initiatives at each practice. The Regional Director will also act as a liaison between the VP of Operations and practices, ensuring that each practice receives adequate corporate support across all functional areas. Building relationships and leading monthly meetings with key stakeholders, particularly partner doctors, will be essential. The role prioritizes high-quality patient care and compliance, developing and collecting data to maintain key quality metrics. The position requires a willingness to travel approximately 50% of the week to provide face-to-face support and guidance to each practice location, actively seeking to listen and understand practice feedback. Compliance with applicable government laws, regulations, and company policies is a critical aspect of this role, along with strong management skills to mentor, coach, and lead team members without direct reporting relationships. The Regional Director will also serve as a cultural leader of excellence in the region, monitoring and managing team morale, and consulting with Human Resources on employee relations and engagement matters. A cross-functional team approach will be essential, working closely with operations, human resources, finance, and business intelligence to gather, analyze, and present data with useful metrics to the leadership team.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 5+ years of people management experience, including giving/receiving feedback and managing team results.
  • 7 years of relevant work experience in a growth-oriented organization.
  • Strong management skills with the ability to mentor, coach, and lead team members without direct reporting relationships.
  • Effective written, verbal, and electronic communication skills.
  • Strong financial aptitude with the ability to take full ownership over the Region's P&L.
  • Computer proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3-5 years of experience in the dental industry, preferably orthodontics.
  • Familiarity with orthodontic practice management systems.
