About the position

The Regional DSD Sales Manager is responsible for expanding operations and increasing sales within the Northern Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa regions. This role involves managing a network of independent distributors, training staff, and ensuring effective route operations while maintaining strong customer relationships. The position requires a solid understanding of Direct Store Delivery (DSD) processes and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including grocery accounts and distributors.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow a network of independent distributors in Northern Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa.
  • Operate and train others on the efficient operation of the handheld tablet.
  • Oversee route operations including scheduling, merchandising, and inventory management.
  • Explain Howe's 'Distributor Settlement Process' and support the necessary administrative functions.
  • Professionally resolve customer service issues and conflicts.
  • Assist in resolving account receivable issues.
  • Make frequent sales calls to existing and new customers in coordination with distributors.
  • Sell product lines into local Walmart stores and other chain stores.
  • Ensure merchandising standards are met, including pricing, assortment, rotation, and product placement.
  • Build and maintain customer relationships through regular communication.
  • Present programs, new items, promotions, and implement price increases.
  • Monitor and maintain accurate item information with customers.
  • Identify and approach new customers.
  • Conduct personal visits to independent distributors at least once per quarter and perform audits when necessary.
  • Aim for face-to-face appointments with accounts, with a minimum of an annual business review.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Prior route sales and/or supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Experience in the food channel and understanding of DSD processes is required.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
