About the position

The Regional General Manager for the West Region at Optum State Government Solutions is a strategic leadership role responsible for driving business growth and ensuring client satisfaction across the region. This position involves managing relationships with senior executives, overseeing regional financial performance, and promoting innovation to meet customer needs. The role requires a commitment to improving healthcare outcomes and advancing health equity, while also providing executive oversight and accountability for service delivery and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain effective negotiation-level relationships with senior executives of existing and potential clients, internal stakeholders, and strategic suppliers.
  • Provide executive oversight of the regional portfolio, achieving regional financial targets and managing regional P&L.
  • Achieve service excellence in delivery and operations, serving as the focal point of accountability and executive point of escalation and achieving NPS targets.
  • Promote innovation and growth to meet the changing needs of customers.
  • Drive renewals and add-on growth.
  • Coordinate with Growth Office for new business to achieve growth targets and financial objectives.
  • Partner with Client Relations Executives on all new growth in their region; participate in the pursuit, orals, and implementations.
  • Review and approve account lead growth opportunities.
  • Support DOA process for new business and account growth opportunities.
  • Promote Optum industry leadership by providing thought leadership and success stories.
  • Collaborate on the identification and prioritization of product and service offerings.
  • Lead matrixed teams to accomplish performance objectives.
  • Promote service delivery talent acquisition and development.
  • Support healthy management and governance processes for the business.
  • Support and champion enterprise-wide priorities and initiatives.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience managing relationships with multiple external clients across different geographies.
  • 10+ years of IT Services experience.
  • 5+ years of health care technology experience.
  • History of working with State government customers in the health care technology space.
  • Existing relationships with State government leaders.
  • Knowledge of the solutions and services being delivered to State government customers.
  • Awareness of what is being delivered to similar customers in the State government industry.
  • Experience leading technology initiatives of more than $50M.
  • Track record of effective executive level communication, including formal presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee client deliverables and work in a highly matrixed environment.
  • Proven organizational skills with ability to be flexible and work with ambiguity.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% of the time on a sustained basis.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience serving as a Regional General Manager.
  • Existing relationships with State government leaders in the West region of the US.
  • Residence within the region of responsibility (currently AK, AZ, CA, CO, HI, ID, KS, MT, ND, NE, NM, NV, OR, SD, UT, WA & WY).
