About the position

The Regional Manager, State Policy & Advocacy at Susan G. Komen is responsible for leading and executing public policy and advocacy initiatives related to breast cancer and public health policy across multiple states. This role involves developing advocacy strategies, tracking legislation, and building relationships with state legislators and stakeholders to promote Komen's mission. The position is fully remote, allowing for flexibility in work location within the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as subject matter expert for public policy and advocacy efforts in the assigned region.
  • Lead the creative vision and development for state-specific advocacy strategies in support of Komen's Public Policy and Advocacy Priorities.
  • Track, review, assess, and report on state legislation, regulatory efforts, state budget climate, and state breast health programs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with state legislators, executives, and their staff within assigned region(s).
  • Collaborate with the Grassroots Team to develop grassroots engagement strategies and execute training and events.
  • Create messaging, talking points, fact sheets, testimony, letters of support, and action alerts for advocacy efforts.
  • Participate in statewide policy collaboratives, coalitions, and patient advocacy organizations to identify collaboration opportunities.
  • Represent Komen Public Policy & Advocacy externally with legislative offices, state government, stakeholders, media, and donors.
  • Promote an organizational culture that values trust, commitment to the mission, and professional growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public policy, public administration, political science, government affairs, communications, or another relevant field.
  • 5-7 years of directly related experience in state policy and advocacy.
  • Experience working with state legislatures and agencies in the assigned region.
  • Proven ability to research, draft, analyze, and interpret legislation and execute advocacy campaigns.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with elected officials and legislative staff.
  • Ability to work independently and creatively, meeting strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in public policy, public administration, political science, government affairs, communications, or another relevant field.
  • Working knowledge of breast cancer and public health policy and advocacy environment.
  • Experience with state lobbying registration and compliance requirements.
  • Proven history of employee and consultant management.
