About the position

The Regional Purchasing Agent at SunGro Horticulture is responsible for managing the procurement process within a designated region, ensuring efficient supply chain operations. This role involves negotiating with suppliers, managing inventory, and collaborating with various departments to meet production planning needs. The Purchasing Agent will lead purchasing activities to achieve budgeted cost targets, delivery volumes, and improvements in terms and cost reduction opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Lead region's purchasing activities to achieve budgeted cost targets, delivery volumes, and timeliness.
• Manage budgetary spend for raw materials and expenses in compliance with purchasing policies.
• Oversee procurement aspects of the assigned territory, including supplier sourcing and strategic initiatives.
• Research and interview suppliers to determine capabilities and negotiate prices and delivery terms.
• Select and analyze supplier quotations, recommending suppliers based on cost, quality, and delivery effectiveness.
• Initiate purchase orders for raw materials and MRO supplies, ensuring proper requisitioning and delivery.
• Visit potential suppliers and qualify them through the supplier onboarding process.
• Resolve product, design, quality, and delivery issues, coordinating with suppliers as necessary.
• Provide operational support to Safety and Quality teams as required.
• Support Corporate Purchasing Manager with raw material sourcing, planning, and forecasting.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree preferred or two to five years of related procurement experience.
• Strong negotiation skills and experience in inventory management.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Experience in production planning and manufacturing.

Nice-to-haves

• Business Central operating software experience preferred.
