About the position

The Regional Safety Manager (RSM) at Waste Pro Louisiana is responsible for providing safety leadership across multiple locations, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role focuses on promoting a culture of safety, conducting training, managing risk, and implementing safety programs to create hazard-free workplaces. The RSM will work closely with corporate safety leaders and regional operations to drive continuous improvement and mitigate risks in the waste management industry.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes a strong culture of safety and environmental stewardship in compliance with applicable Company policies and procedures.
  • Plans, organizes and coordinates employee safety, injury, and illness prevention programs.
  • Ensures compliance with all Federal, State, and Local government laws (OSHA, EPA, USDOT, NIOSH, Traffic Safety, Workers' Compensation, etc.).
  • Directs and facilitates accident investigative processes, root cause analysis and efficient implementations of coaching, training and the reduction of risk.
  • Trains supervisors and other regional staff in DOT, OSHA regulations, accident investigation, and risk/claims management.
  • Manages and supports critical processes required in the investigation of motor vehicle accidents and injuries.
  • Conducts ongoing regulatory assessments, and oversees safety audits/inspections e.g. facilities, operations, equipment and processes.
  • Works with Human Resources and Corporate Safety Leader to promote the well-being of the organization and workforce.
  • Functions as a consultative business partner and liaison for Workers' Compensation/Claims Management, Risk Management, Business Continuity, Loss Prevention, Medical Management and Drug Free Workplace Compliance.
  • Establishes annual plans/objectives in partnership with Corporate Safety Leader, defining clear goals, measures and schedules required to meet regulatory and organizational expectations.
  • Completes quarterly safety review and shares report of findings with RVP and associated management team.
  • Manages, delivers and tracks training safety sessions for preparedness as it relates to hazardous communication, driver safety, and fall protection, machine guarding, hearing and overall personal protective safety.
  • Generates OSHA300's for regional operations and ensures corporate rollup of data and proper posting on an annual basis.
  • Oversees MVR and regulatory/statutory filing protocol.
  • Oversees drug testing program including regulated collection and proper chain of custody processing of samples.
  • Implements effective safety communication plans using various multi-media methods.
  • Actively participates in the new hire, selection, onboarding, orientation and training processes.
  • Holds regional accountability in partnership with RVP for shaping and developing a high performance safety culture.
  • Reviews trends and keeps current in regard to technical, statutory, and regulatory legislation, policies, procedures and related business issues.
  • Develops annual safety budget, and analyzes data versus year-to-date and prior year budget.
  • Maintains required safety training, DOT and other related files and records.
  • Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs.

Requirements

  • BA/BS Degree in Safety, Health, Environmental Services, Occupational Safety/Engineering or other related field (equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Requires 8+ years of progressive hands-on Occupational Health, Safety, Business Continuity Planning and Loss-Control.
  • 5-7 years of domain experience within the Waste Management/Environmental Services industry.
  • Holds one of the following specialty certifications (e.g. CSP, OSHA10, OSHA500, HAZWOPER).
  • Subject matter expertise with state/federal regulations and associated standards (i.e. OSHA, DOT, NIOSH, NFPA, ANSI).
  • Must have 5 years experience in keeping detailed and accurate records in a safety environment.
  • Must have 5 years experience in reading and interpreting federal, state and local safety regulations.
  • Experience recognizing, evaluating, and recommending controls for operational hazards as well as work related injury and illness.
  • Solid project management, oral and written communication skills.
  • High degree of autonomy, yet team oriented with ability to work cross-functionally within a matrix organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and foster a compliant safety-first culture.
  • Ability to manage dynamic situations requiring a well developed sense of meeting tactical priorities.
  • Excellent personal computer skills in a network environment; Microsoft Office, Outlook.
  • Strong planning/organizational, time management and problem solving skills.
