About the position

The K-9 Senior Manager at MGM Resorts International is responsible for overseeing the kennel facility's operations, managing K9 Managers and K9 Handlers, and ensuring the training and welfare of detection dogs. This role involves conducting assessments, maintaining health protocols, and providing emergency response for the dogs, while also serving as the head of the Corporate Security K9 Department.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the kennel, ensuring all areas are properly maintained and sanitized.
  • Conduct technical assessments of K9 teams, making recommendations for continued training and skill enhancement.
  • Manage schedules, conduct reviews, and oversee performance evaluations of all K9 staff members.
  • Assess and select new dogs for the program.
  • Coordinate and lead weekly training for explosive and firearm detection skills.
  • Maintain health and welfare protocols for dogs, ensuring regular veterinary checkups and record-keeping for health documentation.
  • Supervise feeding, hydration, and general care of the dogs according to established policies.
  • Supervise cleaning and disinfecting procedures for all areas to maintain a safe and healthy environment.
  • Ensure the safe handling, storage, and disposal of explosive training aids.
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date records of training, licenses, and permits.
  • Provide emergency first-aid for dogs when necessary.
  • Act as a First Responder in emergencies.
  • Offer excellent service to clients and employees.
  • Be available for on-call hours and perform additional job-related tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • 2 years of experience as a K9 Trainer
  • Ability to work varied shifts including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to travel 25-50%
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Able to plan and coordinate work with vendors, contractors, and other internal departments
  • Effective listening abilities with strong judgment skills.
