About the position

The Regional Supply Chain Manager for the Lansing and Warren, MI Divisions at Barnes Group is responsible for overseeing and directing all materials resources and activities related to production scheduling, supply chain management, and material logistics. This role is crucial in achieving the required business results by effectively planning and coordinating intra-company procurement needs in alignment with production planning. The manager will utilize appropriate material requirements planning systems to forecast and identify gaps in resources, acting as the primary facilitator between sales, operations, and suppliers to negotiate resolutions to meet customer requirements or adjust the master schedule as necessary. In addition to managing daily procurement and production issues, the Regional Supply Chain Manager will evaluate the availability of materials, manpower, and machinery to ensure the timely release of work-in-progress (WIP) orders to the shop floor. Monitoring and measuring performance against schedules is essential, as is addressing any gaps with relevant organizations to ensure on-time shipping to customers. The manager will also be responsible for developing and submitting budgets, production plans, and related reports, while assisting in the strategic planning of the business through the Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning (SIOP) process. The role requires the preparation of specifications regarding quality, quantity, delivery, and service for the purchase of plant equipment and materials to meet production schedules. An effective Materials organization will be developed and maintained through the selection, training, and motivation of personnel. The manager will also oversee critical inventory processes, including cycle counting, planning parameters, capacity analysis, and demand planning processes, while handling other related duties and projects as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and direct all materials resources and activities including production scheduling and planning, supply chain management, and material logistics.
  • Forecast intra-company procurement needs in coordination with production planning using material requirements planning systems.
  • Identify gaps and facilitate negotiations with sales, operations, and suppliers to resolve resource constraints and meet customer requirements.
  • Evaluate material, manpower, and machine availability for the release of WIP orders to the shop floor.
  • Monitor, measure, and address gaps with applicable organizations to achieve schedule and ensure on-time shipping to customers.
  • Manage daily procurement, production, and inventory control issues in coordination with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Sales.
  • Develop and submit budgets, production plans, and related reports.
  • Assist in the development of business strategic plans through the SIOP process and ensure effective implementation.
  • Direct the preparation of specifications for the purchase of plant equipment and materials to meet production schedules.
  • Develop and maintain an effective Materials organization through personnel selection, training, and motivation.
  • Manage critical inventory processes such as cycle counting, planning parameters, capacity analysis, and demand planning.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of related Supply Chain Management experience in an Engineer-to-order manufacturing, OEM, aerospace, or defense environment.
  • Demonstrated progressive career development with increasing responsibilities, emphasizing manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of production flow, inventory flow, and documentation procedures.
  • Strong business/financial acumen with the ability to lead and set direction for teams.
  • Excellent growth leadership skills with a global perspective on factors impacting Aerospace businesses and suppliers.
  • Ability to organize time effectively to complete assigned tasks and functions, including planning workflow and meetings.
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to effectively negotiate contracts and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Multi-site Supply Chain Management experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate Business or Technical discipline is required.
  • APICS/ISM/Supply Chain certification is a plus.
