About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) position at UnityPoint Health involves contributing professional nursing knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to patients and their families. The RN will assist in various clinical tasks, ensuring high-quality patient care and compliance with healthcare standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist provider and other clinical staff with obtaining basic vital information and preparing patients for examination, treatment, and minor surgical procedures.
  • Demonstrate competence in the clinical skills necessary to carry out assigned job duties.
  • Draw and collect blood and other samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Perform EKGs and apply the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation within licensure guidelines).
  • Administer vaccines and ordered medications by oral, IM, SQ, or ID routes.
  • Conduct telephone triage by providing and documenting advice for home care of illness/conditions and conducting follow-up phone calls regarding patients' health and progress as necessary.
  • Schedule referrals for patients with specialists or outpatient services as requested by the provider.
  • Complete appropriate forms or requisitions needed for referrals or lab testing, including prior authorizations.
  • Understand inpatient and outpatient specialty procedures and ensure compliance with precertification requirements.
  • Track follow-up appointments related to office visits, laboratory tests, and procedures to monitor patients' disease status regularly.
  • Provide appropriate and timely documentation in the patient's electronic health record using standardized workflows and processes.
  • Assist leadership with quality and other clinic initiatives as needed.
  • Keep logs on sample drugs, MSDS sheets, assist with safety surveys, track out-dates, AED log, and monitor refrigeration for immunizations.
  • Stay informed about clinic/department and organizational updates by attending meetings and checking the organization's intranet site.
  • Demonstrate initiative to improve responsibilities, be open to feedback, and contribute to positive team goals.
  • Perform other duties as requested by clinic leadership to facilitate the smooth and efficient operations of the office.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited program for Registered Nurses.
  • Current license to practice nursing in the state of Iowa for Registered Nurse.
  • Computer data entry experience.
  • Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
  • BLS and Mandatory Reporter certification within the first 90 days.
