About The Position

The Registered Nurse Director of Nursing B position at the Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System (ELMHS) in Jackson, LA, is a leadership role responsible for overseeing all nursing and therapeutic services within the facility. The incumbent will ensure compliance with Joint Commission and CMS standards, manage nursing staff, and develop nursing objectives and policies. This role requires a postgraduate degree in Nursing, Health Care Administration, or Business Administration, along with significant professional nursing experience.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid Louisiana license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state plus six years of professional nursing experience.
  • A baccalaureate degree in nursing will substitute for one year of the required experience.
  • A master's degree in nursing or public health will substitute for one year of the required experience.
  • A doctorate in nursing or public health will substitute for two years of the required experience.

  • Experience in complying and reviewing corrective actions for state and federal regulatory agencies such as Joint Commission, CMS, and Health Standard Section.

Responsibilities

  • Directs all nursing care services within the facility.
  • Provides nursing administration on all shifts.
  • Establishes nursing objectives, philosophy, and goals.
  • Participates in instructional planning as a member of executive management.
  • Collaborates with nursing school representatives to organize clinical experiences for students.
  • Appoints committees and/or committee members.
  • Conducts head nurse and supervisor meetings.
  • Prepares periodic reports on the status of nursing care.
  • Recommends policy and/or procedure changes to administration and/or medical staff.
  • Conducts research related to nursing interventions and implements new nursing processes.
  • Develops and maintains a current Master Staffing Plan.
  • Formulates nursing budget requests and administers the budget by reviewing reports and reacting to feedback.
  • Assures that policies and procedures are consistent with hospital and medical staff policies and procedures.
  • Functions as a liaison between medical staff and nursing department.
  • Establishes standards of nursing care and performance for all personnel within the nursing department.
  • Assures competency of nursing personnel through an ongoing evaluation process.
