About The Position

The Endoscopy Registered Nurse (RN) at the Department of Veterans Affairs South Texas Veterans Health Care System is responsible for executing complex procedural care, demonstrating leadership and creative management approaches. The RN coordinates patient care, focusing on patient transitions, education, and self-management post-discharge, while ensuring customer satisfaction. This role involves providing care for patients undergoing various endoscopic procedures, assessing their physical and mental status, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to promote safe transitions across the healthcare continuum.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Graduation from a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a state, territory, or commonwealth of the U.S.
  • Proficiency in basic written and spoken English.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug test.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
  • 3-5 years of experience as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
  • 1-2 years of experience in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU).
  • Moderate Sedation experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate in the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Provide patient care in assigned duty locations across South Texas Veteran's Healthcare System.
  • Deliver and manage care for patients undergoing therapeutic and diagnostic endoscopy procedures, pulmonary procedures, and dental sedation procedures.
  • Assess patients' physical and mental status prior to procedures and educate them on procedural and post-procedural care.
  • Document responses to interventions and report any changes in patient condition.
  • Partner with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams to promote effective transitions across the healthcare continuum.
  • Provide constructive feedback to peers for improvement.
  • Foster a safe and supportive environment for the professional development of healthcare professionals.
  • Evaluate outcomes of evidence-based decisions and practice changes for individuals and groups.
  • Maintain proficiency in the maintenance, cleaning, and preparation of endoscopy-specific equipment.
  • Recognize changes in patient care situations and initiate appropriate emergency responses.
  • Adapt to changes in the daily schedule and may be assigned call duties.
