About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) position in the Flex Unit at UMass Memorial Health Care is a part-time role that requires a commitment to providing exceptional patient care. This position operates on a 24-hour schedule, specifically during the day shift from 7 AM to 7 PM, and includes responsibilities that span from patient admission to discharge. The RN will utilize the Nursing Process to deliver and manage patient care, ensuring that assessments and reassessments are performed according to established procedures. The role involves developing and coordinating individual care plans, including discharge planning, and supervising nursing care within the assigned clinical setting. The RN will also be responsible for delegating tasks appropriately and documenting patient care in compliance with standard procedures. In addition to direct patient care, the RN will administer medications, perform treatments and therapies, and assist physicians with various procedures. The position requires collaboration with other healthcare providers to ensure quality and continuity of care. The RN will also participate in nursing governance activities, contribute to performance improvement initiatives, and support the education and development of staff. The work environment is indoors, primarily in a patient care setting, and the role demands a commitment to maintaining professionalism, respect, and a collaborative atmosphere among colleagues and patients alike. Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the Nursing Process for the delivery and management of patient's care from Admission to Discharge, appropriate to the developmental age of the patient population.
  • Performs patient assessment/reassessment according to standard procedure.
  • Develops and coordinates individual plan of care including discharge planning.
  • Directs, supervises, coordinates and evaluates nursing care within assigned clinical setting.
  • Delegates appropriately to others in accordance with job description and competency level.
  • Documents patient care according to standard procedure.
  • Develops, implements/coordinates and documents Education Plan for patient/family/significant other.
  • Ensures quality and continuity of care through collaboration with other health care providers.
  • Administers medications, performs treatments, therapies and operates equipment according to policy and procedure.
  • Assists physician with treatment and procedures and special tests as required or directed.
  • Participates in and supports Nursing Governance activities.
  • Assumes responsibility for professional growth and assists in education and development of staff.
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives and demonstrates the use of quality improvement in daily operations.

Requirements

  • Current Massachusetts Nursing licensure and registration.
  • BLS certification is required for every RN unless ACLS certification is current, in addition to any unit specific certifications and competencies.
  • Thorough knowledge of the discipline of Nursing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing is highly preferred.
