About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission plays a crucial role in coordinating the efforts of a multidisciplinary care team to provide comprehensive care to patients. This position emphasizes the importance of treating patients as whole individuals, addressing their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. The RN is responsible for delivering direct patient care, collaborating with patients, families, peers, physicians, and other healthcare team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Utilizing the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, the RN aims to maintain and improve patient health while advocating for their needs. In this role, the RN is expected to demonstrate leadership and management skills, showing a commitment to professional accountability and growth. The RN is encouraged to advance their skills from novice to expert, becoming an evidence-based scholar to provide the best possible care. The RN serves as a role model for the mission, vision, and values of Shawnee Mission Health, ensuring compliance with the Kansas Nurse Practice Act and all regulatory standards. The RN will actively participate in various team activities, including bedside shift reports, safety huddles, multidisciplinary patient rounds, and hourly rounding. This collaborative approach is designed to gather essential information for patient care, anticipate patient needs, and facilitate smooth transitions of care among team members. Additionally, the RN will engage in patient teaching and discharge planning to promote optimal outcomes for patients.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the efforts of the multidisciplinary care team for patients.
  • Provide direct patient care and collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Utilize the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) to improve patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrate leadership and management skills in nursing practice.
  • Participate in bedside shift reports, safety huddles, and multidisciplinary patient rounds.
  • Implement a plan of care based on identified patient needs.
  • Provide patient teaching and discharge planning.

Requirements

  • Kansas Registered Nurse License
  • BCLS obtained through the American Heart Association
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or obtained within 4 years of employment
