As a Registered Nurse in the GI Procedural department at Kaiser Permanente, you will practice professional nursing by performing both independent nursing functions and delegated medical functions in accordance with accepted practice standards. Your role will involve the initiation and performance of nursing care through health promotion, supportive or restorative care, disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of human diseases, ailments, pain, injuries, deformities, and physical or mental conditions. This will require the application of specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills, utilizing principles from biological, physical, social, and behavioral sciences. You will be expected to make members and patients your primary focus, developing and sustaining productive relationships with them. This includes actively seeking information to understand their circumstances, problems, expectations, and needs, and building rapport to ensure effective communication. You will need to consider how your actions or plans will affect members and respond quickly to meet their needs, resolving any issues that arise. In this position, you will comply with all Kaiser Permanente quality, safety, and emergency policies and procedures. You will demonstrate quality and effectiveness in your work habits and clinical practice during every interaction with patients, colleagues, providers, and leadership. Ensuring patient safety is paramount, particularly in the preparation and provisioning of care related to medications, procedures, infection prevention, and fall prevention. You will be responsible for reporting safety hazards, accidents, incidents, and unsafe working conditions promptly. Your responsibilities will include evaluating health status through the collection and assessment of health data, analyzing reports, and using data to identify healthcare problems and create plans. You will prioritize patient needs, triage patients, conduct follow-up calls, and evaluate emergency situations to initiate appropriate nursing interventions. Health teaching and counseling to patients and their families will also be part of your role, along with executing delegated medical functions consistent with the medical plan prescribed by a licensed physician. You will administer intravenous therapy and other medications, provide supportive and restorative treatment, and refer patients to medical or community agencies as needed. Additionally, you will facilitate the coordination and integration of care between healthcare services, manage patient populations to ensure appropriate utilization of healthcare resources, and lead the healthcare team by influencing and role modeling effective nursing practices.
