About the position

The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process, which includes assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. This role emphasizes quality communication, teamwork, and professionalism. The nurse will direct, coordinate, and implement patient teaching, quality and safety initiatives, and the activities of other health team personnel while maintaining professional nursing standards. As a Registered Nurse I (RNI), the individual will be responsible for the care of the assigned patient population. The RN I is required to complete yearly mandatory competencies, as well as any unit-specific competencies identified by the Director or Designee that relate to the patient population of their unit. Additionally, the RN I must fulfill the Professional Practice Ladder requirements, which include assuming responsibility as Charge Nurse, participating in Performance Improvement (PI) activities, and engaging in department initiatives. Communication and sharing of information with the Director/Designee and co-workers from unit or hospital committees are essential. The RN I is also expected to participate in educational opportunities such as Valley Health paid Education/Seminar/Conference, workshops, or Nursing Articles. The RN I routinely solicits and validates patient and family satisfaction, participates in peer review for the unit, and develops educational materials for staff, patients, and family members. This position requires a commitment to ongoing professional development and adherence to the standards of nursing practice.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure quality communication, teamwork, and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Direct, coordinate, and implement patient teaching and quality/safety initiatives.
  • Oversee the activities of other health team personnel while maintaining professional nursing standards.
  • Complete yearly mandatory competencies and unit-specific competencies as required.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement (PI) activities and department initiatives.
  • Communicate and share information with the Director/Designee and co-workers from unit or hospital committees.
  • Engage in educational opportunities such as seminars, workshops, and nursing articles.
  • Solicit and validate patient/family satisfaction regularly.
  • Participate in peer review for the unit and develop educational materials for staff and patients.

Requirements

  • Associates Nursing (RN Diploma, ASN or ADN) required; Bachelors Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • RN License required; BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart Healthcare Provider (HCP) - AHA approved required.
  • Competent in providing care based on cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological stages of human growth and development.
  • Must have a reliable means of phone communication with the hospital.
  • Eligibility to Test Letter from the Virginia Board of Nursing if a Virginia resident or Non-Compact state resident.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant Specialty Certification preferred.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting is a plus.
