The registered professional nurse in the Emergency Room Nursing department is responsible for utilizing their nursing skills to effectively carry out the nursing process. This includes assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. The nurse is expected to maintain quality communication, teamwork, and professionalism while directing, coordinating, and implementing patient teaching, quality and safety initiatives, and the activities of other health team personnel. The nurse must uphold the standards of professional nursing at all times. As a Registered Nurse I (RNI), the nurse is responsible for the care of the assigned patient population. This role requires the completion of yearly mandatory competencies, as well as any unit-specific competencies identified by the Director or Designee that relate to the patient population. Additionally, the RN I must fulfill the requirements of the Professional Practice Ladder, which includes assuming responsibility as Charge Nurse, participating in Performance Improvement (PI) activities, and engaging in department initiatives. The nurse is also responsible for communicating and sharing information with the Director/Designee and co-workers from unit or hospital committees. Participation in educational opportunities such as Valley Health paid education, seminars, conferences, workshops, or nursing articles is also required. The nurse must maintain a current portfolio and submit it to the Director/Designee annually by March 1st. The RN I routinely solicits and validates patient and family satisfaction, participates in peer review for the unit, and develops educational materials for staff, patients, and family members. This role is crucial in ensuring high-quality patient care and maintaining the standards of the nursing profession.
