The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process, which includes assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. This role emphasizes quality communication, teamwork, and professionalism. The nurse will direct, coordinate, and implement patient teaching, quality and safety initiatives, and the activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing. As a Registered Nurse II (RN II), the individual is responsible for the care of the assigned patient population. This position requires the completion of yearly mandatory competencies, as well as any unit-specific competencies identified by the Director or Designee related to the patient population of their unit. Additionally, the RN II must fulfill the Professional Practice Ladder requirements, which include assuming responsibility as Charge Nurse, participating in Performance Improvement (PI) activities, and engaging in department initiatives. Communication and sharing of information with the Director/Designee and co-workers from unit or hospital committees are essential. The RN II is also expected to maintain a current portfolio, which must be submitted to the Director/Designee annually by March 1st. The RN II routinely solicits and validates patient and family satisfaction, participates in peer review for the unit, and develops educational materials such as bulletin boards or posters to inform staff, patients, and family members. This role is critical in ensuring high standards of care and fostering a supportive environment for both patients and healthcare team members.
