About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) II position at Houston Methodist is a licensed staff nurse role for experienced clinicians, functioning at the Competent to Proficient stage of Benner's model of clinical practice. This position provides professional nursing care to a diverse patient population, conducting assessments, assisting with exams and treatments, and ensuring effective patient education and record maintenance. The RN II collaborates with physicians and the interprofessional healthcare team to deliver compassionate, efficient, and quality care, while also taking on leadership responsibilities such as serving as a charge nurse or preceptor.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional nursing care to a diverse patient population.
• Conduct nursing assessments and assist with exams and treatments.
• Educate patients and maintain accurate medical records.
• Communicate and collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams to ensure quality care.
• Demonstrate clinical competence in administering medications and managing emergencies.
• Assume leadership roles, including charge nurse and preceptor responsibilities.
• Implement staff education specific to patient populations and unit processes.
• Advocate for patients and families to resolve clinical and ethical concerns.
• Drive improvement in patient satisfaction and departmental scores.

Requirements

• Graduate of an approved education program for registered nurses.
• Twelve months of registered nurse experience in a healthcare environment.
• Current Texas State Licensure or Compact State Licensure within 60 days.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA.
• Other credentials and certifications as defined by unit/service line.
