About the position

The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process, which includes assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. This role requires quality communication, teamwork, and professionalism. The nurse will direct, coordinate, and implement patient teaching, quality and safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing. As a Registered Nurse III (RN III), the individual is responsible for the care of the assigned patient population. The RN III is required to complete yearly mandatory competencies, as well as any unit-specific competencies identified by the Director or Designee that relate to the patient population of their unit. Additionally, the RN III must fulfill the Professional Practice Ladder requirements, which include assuming responsibility as Charge Nurse, participating in Performance Improvement (PI) activities, and engaging in department initiatives. Communication and sharing of information with the Director/Designee and co-workers from unit or hospital committees are essential. The RN III must also maintain a current portfolio, which is submitted to the Director/Designee annually by March 1st, and must be involved in a committee with validation of participation. The RN III routinely solicits and validates patient and family satisfaction, participates in peer review for the unit, and develops educational materials for staff, patients, and family members. This position is critical in ensuring high-quality patient care and fostering a supportive environment for both patients and healthcare team members.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
  • Minimum of 5616 hours of RN experience required for advancement to this level.
  • Current RN License required, with eligibility to practice in Virginia under the Nurse Licensure Compact or a valid single-state license.
  • BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) from an AHA approved provider required.
  • Relevant Specialty Certification preferred.
