About the position

The Riverside University Health System-Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse III for their Preoperative Care department. This role involves providing preoperative and postoperative care, floating within the Perioperative Department as needed. The ideal candidate should have at least two years of experience in preoperative and postoperative care, with a preference for bilingual candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients on admission to SDS and reassess per unit standards to evaluate care before and after surgery.
  • Reassess patients for safety issues throughout the perioperative period.
  • Utilize the nursing process to provide quality patient care according to established standards, including planning, implementing, evaluating, and adjusting care plans.
  • Follow Rights of Medication Administration and assess/document the effectiveness/effects of medication and treatment.
  • Check orders, pull medications from correct patients, label medications, and waste medications as required.
  • Follow policy and procedure on Medication Administration including BCMA (Scanning).
  • Document patient care clearly and according to established nursing standards.
  • Document pain assessments and match them with appropriate pain interventions.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare team members in teaching patients and families about disease processes and wellness promotion plans.
  • Adhere to organization policies, procedures, and ASPAN standards.
  • Think critically when patient conditions change and make appropriate care modifications.
  • Competently care for post-surgical patients.
  • Assess patients for readiness for discharge using critical thinking skills and guidelines for discharge.
  • Perform Phase II recovery and discharge home.

Requirements

  • Current and valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in California.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification from the American Heart Association.
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification.
  • At least two years of preoperative and postoperative care experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
