About the position

The Infection Prevention/MDRO Program Manager is responsible for overseeing the Infection Prevention Program (IPM) at the Veterans Health Administration. This role involves ensuring adherence to Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) standards, leading initiatives to improve patient care, and collaborating with various departments to implement effective infection prevention strategies. The Program Manager reports directly to the Associate Director of Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer and plays a critical role in maintaining high standards of nursing practice and patient safety.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the fulfillment of the Medical Center's Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Identify and maintain Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) standards for all services.
  • Assess the environment and analyze trends related to infection prevention.
  • Transmit data and communicate ideas effectively to stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement policies and programs for infection prevention.
  • Collaborate in managing resources for infection prevention initiatives.
  • Train and monitor staff on infection prevention practices, including during weekends and holidays.
  • Ensure compliance with external standards such as The Joint Commission and internal clinical practice guidelines.
  • Lead systematic evaluation and improvement of nursing care quality and patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a U.S. State or territory.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination and background investigation.

  • Experience in healthcare epidemiology and infection control practices.
  • Knowledge of microbiology and asepsis principles.
  • Skills in adult education and training.
  • Experience in program administration and policy development.
