About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Med Surg Telemetry unit at UMass Memorial Health Care is responsible for the planning, delivery, and management of direct patient care using the nursing process. This role adheres to the standards of nursing practice within a specific unit or clinical area, ensuring that patients receive exceptional care. The RN will work part-time, with scheduled hours primarily in the evening shift from 1500 to 2330, and will be required to work every other holiday and weekend. The position may also offer a signing bonus, which will be confirmed during the interview process. As a caregiver at UMass Memorial Health, the RN will utilize clinical reasoning and critical thinking to involve patients, families, and other disciplines in decision-making related to the patient's plan of care. The RN will serve as a patient and family advocate, implementing interventions consistent with hospital standards and prescribed medical plans of care. Documentation of patient assessments, plans of care, and responses to interventions is crucial, as is maintaining competency in managing clinical emergencies. The RN will demonstrate essential knowledge of pharmacology and medications, ensuring safe administration and monitoring of patient responses. Collaboration with other healthcare professionals is key, as the RN will delegate responsibilities according to Massachusetts general laws and practice guidelines. The RN will also influence the work climate by establishing a supportive environment for optimal patient care and professional development. Participation in performance improvement activities and staying current with literature regarding best practices in patient care is expected. Overall, the RN plays a vital role in the HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital Care Team, contributing to the health and well-being of the community.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process for the delivery and management of patient care.
  • Maintains assignment of patients and caseload according to unit guidelines and established standards of practice.
  • Uses positive customer service skills when communicating with patients and their families.
  • Documents patient assessments, plans of care, and responses to interventions, meeting all unit documentation standards.
  • Communicates and coordinates the patient's plan of care to ensure continuity of care.
  • Maintains competency in management of clinical emergencies and provides complete communications in SBAR format to relieving staff members.
  • Demonstrates essential knowledge of pharmacology and medications in administering drugs and monitoring patient responses.
  • Acts as a charge nurse as requested by the nursing management team.
  • Facilitates cooperative and collaborative relationships among various disciplines and departments to ensure effective quality patient care.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities utilizing principles to support and improve patient care.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of a recognized school of Nursing.
  • A Bachelor's degree (BSN) in Nursing is preferred.
  • 2-3 years of Nursing experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have a current Massachusetts Registered Nurse License.
  • Ability to provide care for a designated group of patients according to unit guidelines and hospital policies.
