About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission plays a crucial role in coordinating the efforts of a multidisciplinary care team to provide comprehensive care to patients. This position involves direct patient care, where the RN collaborates with patients, families, peers, physicians, and other healthcare team members to ensure the delivery of high-quality care tailored to a specific patient population. The RN is expected to utilize the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to maintain and improve patient outcomes effectively. In this role, the RN demonstrates leadership and management skills, showcasing a commitment to professional accountability and growth. The RN is encouraged to advance from novice to expert, becoming an evidence-based scholar to provide optimal patient care and advocate for patients' needs. The RN serves as a role model for the mission, vision, and values of Shawnee Mission Health, ensuring compliance with the Kansas Nurse Practice Act and all regulatory standards, policies, protocols, and procedures. The RN is responsible for utilizing accurate assessment skills appropriate to their patient population, ensuring patient safety by adhering to established policies and procedures, and implementing care plans based on identified physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs. Active participation in bedside shift reports, safety huddles, multidisciplinary patient rounds, and hourly rounding is essential to gather necessary information for patient care and facilitate smooth transitions between care team members.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the efforts of the multidisciplinary care team for patients within the RN's scope of responsibility.
  • Provide direct patient care and collaborate with patients, families, peers, physicians, and other healthcare team members.
  • Utilize the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) to maintain and improve patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrate leadership and management skills while committing to professional accountability and growth.
  • Advance from novice to expert and become an evidence-based scholar to provide optimal patient care.
  • Serve as a role model for the mission, vision, and values of Shawnee Mission Health.
  • Work within the parameters of the Kansas Nurse Practice Act and established policies, protocols, and procedures.
  • Utilize accurate assessment skills appropriate to the patient population and based on evidence, policy, and practice standards.
  • Assure patient safety by adhering to established policies and procedures and utilizing patient safety resources.
  • Implement a plan of care according to identified physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs.
  • Prioritize nursing interventions based on patient needs and available resources.
  • Participate in bedside shift report, safety huddles, multidisciplinary patient rounds, and hourly rounding.

Requirements

  • Kansas Registered Nurse License
  • BCLS obtained through the American Heart Association
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or obtained within 4 years of employment
