About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission plays a crucial role in coordinating the multidisciplinary care team for patients within their scope of responsibility. This position involves providing direct patient care and collaborating with patients, families, peers, physicians, and other healthcare team members to deliver comprehensive care to a specific patient population. The RN utilizes the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to maintain and improve patient outcomes. This role requires a commitment to professional accountability and growth, as the RN strives to advance from novice to expert, becoming an evidence-based scholar to provide optimal patient care and advocate for their patients. The RN serves as a role model for the mission, vision, and values of Shawnee Mission Health, ensuring adherence to the Kansas Nurse Practice Act and all regulatory standards, policies, protocols, and procedures. In this position, the RN is responsible for assuring patient safety by following established policies and procedures and utilizing patient safety resources. They implement a plan of care based on identified physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs, demonstrating the ability to prioritize nursing interventions according to patient needs and available resources. The RN actively participates in bedside shift reports, safety huddles, multidisciplinary patient rounds, and hourly rounding to gather necessary information for patient care, anticipate needs, and ensure smooth hand-offs to other healthcare team members. Additionally, the RN provides patient education and discharge planning to promote optimal patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Kansas Registered Nurse License
  • BCLS obtained through the American Heart Association
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or obtained within 4 years of employment
