About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission plays a crucial role in coordinating the efforts of a multidisciplinary care team to provide comprehensive care to patients. This position involves delivering direct patient care, collaborating with patients, families, peers, physicians, and other healthcare team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The RN utilizes the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to maintain and improve patient health. This role requires a commitment to professional accountability and growth, with the RN expected to advance from novice to expert and become an evidence-based scholar in nursing practice. The RN serves as a role model for the mission, vision, and values of Shawnee Mission Health, ensuring adherence to the Kansas Nurse Practice Act and all regulatory standards. In this full-time position, the RN will work 12-hour shifts, with call required, from 8 am to 8:30 pm. The RN is responsible for assessing patient needs, implementing care plans, and ensuring patient safety by following established policies and procedures. The RN will actively participate in bedside shift reports, safety huddles, multidisciplinary patient rounds, and hourly rounding to gather necessary information for patient care and facilitate smooth transitions between care team members. This role is integral to providing whole-person care, which encompasses physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being, and is essential in fostering a supportive community for patients and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the efforts of the multidisciplinary care team for patients within the RN's scope of responsibility.
  • Provide direct patient care and collaborate with patients, families, peers, physicians, and other healthcare team members.
  • Utilize the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) to maintain and improve patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrate leadership and management skills while committing to professional accountability and growth.
  • Act as a role model for the mission, vision, and values of Shawnee Mission Health.
  • Ensure adherence to the Kansas Nurse Practice Act and all regulatory standards.
  • Participate in bedside shift reports, safety huddles, multidisciplinary patient rounds, and hourly rounding.

Requirements

  • Kansas Registered Nurse License
  • BCLS obtained through the American Heart Association
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or obtained within 4 years of employment
