About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) position in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) involves providing comprehensive nursing care to an assigned group of patients in an acute care hospital setting. The role requires effective communication with patients and families, documentation of patient responses, and collaboration with physicians and support staff. This contract position offers both day and night shifts, with guaranteed hours and the potential for extensions.

Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibility for an assigned group of patients, delivering comprehensive nursing care.
  • Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments, noting changes in physician orders.
  • Aid physicians during patient examinations and assist with minor diagnostic procedures and treatments.
  • Obtain and monitor physiological data, observing patient manifestations and intervening as needed.
  • Administer prescribed medications and manage intravenous infusions and blood products.
  • Effectively communicate care plans with patients and families during the hospital stay and at discharge.
  • Inform patients and families about hospital procedures and protocols.
  • Refer patient care needs to appropriate personnel and delegate tasks to support staff as necessary.
  • Perform additional nursing duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a Step Down unit.
  • Current RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a valid multistate compact RN License (eNLC).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Strong knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, coordination, and evaluation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for maintaining positive working relationships with colleagues.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to meet the cultural and language needs of diverse patients and visitors.
  • Basic computer skills.
