About the position

The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process, which includes assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. This role emphasizes quality communication, teamwork, and professionalism. The nurse will direct, coordinate, and implement patient teaching, quality and safety initiatives, and the activities of other health team personnel while maintaining the standards of professional nursing. As a Registered Nurse Per Diem (RNPD), the individual is responsible for the care of the assigned patient population. The RNPD is required to complete yearly mandatory competencies, as well as any unit-specific competencies identified by the Director or Designee that relate to the patient population of their unit. Additionally, the RNPD must fulfill the Professional Practice Ladder requirements, which include assuming responsibility as Charge Nurse, participating in Performance Improvement (PI) activities, and engaging in department initiatives. Communication and sharing of information with the Director/Designee and co-workers from unit or hospital committees are essential. The RNPD is also expected to maintain a current portfolio, which must be submitted to the Director/Designee annually by March 1st. The RNPD routinely solicits and validates patient and family satisfaction, participates in peer reviews for the unit, and develops educational materials such as bulletin boards or posters to inform staff, patients, and family members. This position requires a commitment to ongoing education and professional development, ensuring that the nurse remains competent in providing care based on the cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological stages of human growth and development.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Associates Nursing (RN Diploma, ASN or ADN) required; Bachelors Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Two years of RN experience required.
  • RN License required; must be licensed or eligible to practice in Virginia.
  • BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) required; relevant specialty certification preferred.
  • Competent in providing care based on the cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological stages of human growth and development.
  • Must have a reliable means of phone communication with the hospital.
