About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) position in Radiology at Indiana University Health is a part-time role focused on providing care to patients undergoing diagnostic imaging procedures. The RN will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes, utilizing best practices in patient assessment, education, and care coordination. This role requires effective communication skills and adaptability due to the high turnover of patients and the collaborative nature of the work.

Responsibilities

  • Assessing patients prior to their procedures by studying patient medical histories and speaking with both patients and their physicians.
  • Helping patients better understand the procedures they need and serving as a liaison between the patient, nursing staff, and physician.
  • Observation of conscious sedation patients undergoing MRI examinations.
  • Oversight of Nuclear Medicine Lexiscan studies, CT Cardiac exams, and MRI pacemaker studies.
  • Port access and deaccess lab draw for patients also needing blood draw during visit.
  • Explaining the procedures needed by answering any questions/concerns patients and family may have.
  • Responsible for instructing patients on what to do before a particular procedure.
  • Responsible for preparing the patient on the day of procedure.
  • Operating radiology machines and at times reading diagnostic images.
  • Reassessing patients after their procedure and providing care until they are ready to be discharged.

Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the AHA.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
