About the position

The Registered Nurse - PRN - Mother-Baby position at HCA Houston Healthcare West involves providing high-quality nursing care to patients in the Mother-Baby unit. This role is essential for ensuring the safety and well-being of both mothers and their newborns, particularly those with critical medical and surgical conditions. The nurse will coordinate patient care, supervise nursing staff, and participate in discharge planning, all while maintaining professional standards and effective communication with patients and healthcare teams.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, supervise, and be accountable for safe professional nursing care of patients within the assigned department.
  • Demonstrate professional behavior and conduct at all times.
  • Maintain good employee/peer relationships and teamwork.
  • Prioritize work and duties and work well under stressful situations.
  • Demonstrate good communication and customer service skills with patients, families, physicians, peers, and healthcare team.
  • Accountable for direct patient care, applying nursing processes, prioritizing care, and evaluating outcomes for premature and term neonates with critical conditions.
  • Participate in the discharge planning process and cost containment.
  • Document all aspects of patient care efficiently, accurately, and per policy recommendations.
  • Delegate patient care to licensed/non-licensed nursing staff based on acuity, patient needs, staff availability, and qualifications.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement activities.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved and accredited nursing program (ADN required, BSN preferred).
  • Current RN Licensure in the State of Texas.
  • Current BCLS certification required.
  • ACLS certification within 30 days of hire.
  • NRP certification within 30 days of hire.
  • 1 year of Postpartum or Mother/Baby experience.
