About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission plays a crucial role in coordinating the efforts of a multidisciplinary care team to provide comprehensive care to patients. This position involves delivering direct patient care while collaborating with patients, families, peers, physicians, and other healthcare team members. The RN is responsible for utilizing the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to maintain and improve patient outcomes. The RN is expected to demonstrate leadership and management skills, showing a commitment to professional accountability and growth. The role emphasizes the importance of advancing from novice to expert, becoming an evidence-based scholar to provide optimal patient care and advocate for patients' needs. In this role, the RN will be accountable for adhering to the Kansas Nurse Practice Act, regulatory standards, and established policies and procedures. The RN will utilize accurate assessment skills tailored to the patient population, ensuring patient safety by following established protocols and utilizing safety resources. The RN will implement care plans based on identified physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs, prioritizing nursing interventions according to patient needs and available resources. Active participation in bedside shift reports, safety huddles, multidisciplinary patient rounds, and hourly rounding is essential to gather necessary information for patient care and ensure smooth transitions between care team members.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the efforts of the multidisciplinary care team for patients within the RN's scope of responsibility.
  • Provide direct patient care and collaborate with patients, families, peers, physicians, and other healthcare team members.
  • Utilize the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) to maintain and improve patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrate leadership and management skills while committing to professional accountability and growth.
  • Advance from novice to expert and become an evidence-based scholar to provide optimal patient care and advocate for patients.
  • Ensure adherence to the Kansas Nurse Practice Act and established policies, protocols, and procedures.
  • Utilize accurate assessment skills appropriate to the patient population based on evidence, policy, and practice standards.
  • Implement a plan of care according to identified physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs.
  • Prioritize nursing interventions based on patient needs and unit activities.
  • Participate in bedside shift reports, safety huddles, multidisciplinary patient rounds, and hourly rounding.

Requirements

  • Kansas Registered Nurse License
  • BCLS obtained through the American Heart Association
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or obtained within 4 years of employment
