About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) position in the Inpatient Child Behavioral Health Unit at Maine Behavioral Healthcare focuses on providing comprehensive patient care to adolescents requiring acute mental health treatment. The role is designed for both new graduates and experienced nurses, emphasizing the use of the nursing process in an inpatient setting. The unit specializes in treating various psychiatric conditions and offers a multidisciplinary approach to care, including therapy and medication management.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care utilizing the nursing process in an inpatient setting.
• Participate in the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
• Administer medications and monitor patient responses.
• Conduct bio-psychosocial assessments and document patient progress.
• Engage in therapeutic communication and support for patients and their families.
• Participate in unit programming, including therapy groups and educational sessions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing or a graduate of an accredited Nursing program required.
• Licensed as a registered professional nurse by the Maine State Board of Nursing required.
• 1+ year of psychiatric nursing experience preferred.
• Knowledge of counseling theory and the effects of mental illness and substance abuse preferred.
• Knowledge of bio-psychosocial assessments required.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with dialectical behavioral therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy skills groups.
• Familiarity with individual and milieu therapies.
