About the position

The Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (L&D RN) provides specialized care to expectant mothers during labor and delivery. This role involves monitoring and supporting patients throughout the childbirth process, ensuring the health and safety of both mother and baby, and collaborating with the obstetric team to facilitate a positive birth experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive assessments of laboring patients, including monitoring vital signs, fetal heart rates, and contraction patterns.
  • Assist and support patients throughout labor and delivery, including providing pain management options, emotional support, and guidance on breathing and relaxation techniques.
  • Assist with the delivery process, including preparing and assisting with vaginal deliveries and cesarean sections.
  • Educate patients and families about the labor and delivery process, newborn care, and postpartum recovery.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient assessments, labor progress, delivery outcomes, and post-delivery care in electronic health records (EHR).
  • Recognize and respond to any signs of complications or emergencies, such as fetal distress or postpartum hemorrhage.
  • Work closely with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care and ensure a smooth delivery process.
  • Provide care and support for patients in the postpartum period, including monitoring recovery, managing any complications, and facilitating the transition to home.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols to prevent the spread of infections and ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to labor and delivery care.

Requirements

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Current and valid RN license in the state of Florida.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience in labor and delivery or a related obstetric field is preferred.
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills, excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in Inpatient Obstetric Nursing (RNC-OB) may be required or preferred based on facility.
  • Experience in a high-risk obstetrics setting is highly desirable.
