The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process, which includes assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. This role emphasizes quality communication, teamwork, and professionalism. The nurse will direct, coordinate, and implement patient teaching, quality and safety initiatives, and the activities of other health team personnel while maintaining the standards of professional nursing. As a Registered Nurse I (RNI), the individual is responsible for the care of the assigned patient population. An RN I is required to complete yearly mandatory competencies, as well as any unit-specific competencies identified by the Director or Designee that relate to the patient population of their unit. Additionally, the RN I must fulfill the Professional Practice Ladder requirements, which include assuming responsibility as Charge Nurse, participating in Performance Improvement (PI) activities, and department initiatives. The RN I is expected to communicate and share information with the Director/Designee and co-workers from unit or hospital committees. They are also required to maintain a current portfolio and submit it to the Director/Designee annually by March 1st. The RN I routinely solicits and validates patient and family satisfaction, participates in peer review for the unit, and develops educational materials such as bulletin boards or posters to provide information to staff, patients, and family members.
