The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process, which includes assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. This role requires quality communication, teamwork, and professionalism. The nurse will direct, coordinate, and implement patient teaching, quality and safety initiatives, and the activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing practice. As a Registered Nurse III (RN III), the individual will be responsible for the care of the assigned patient population. The RN III is required to complete yearly mandatory competencies, as well as any unit-specific competencies identified by the Director or Designee that relate to the patient population of their unit. Additionally, the RN III must fulfill the requirements of the Professional Practice Ladder, which includes assuming responsibility as Charge Nurse, participating in Performance Improvement (PI) activities, and engaging in department initiatives. Communication and sharing of information with the Director/Designee and co-workers from unit or hospital committees are essential. The RN III is also expected to maintain a current portfolio, which must be submitted to the Director/Designee annually by March 1st. Participation in a committee is mandatory, and validation of participation must be provided. The RN III routinely solicits and validates patient and family satisfaction, participates in peer review for the unit, and develops educational materials such as bulletin boards or posters to inform staff, patients, and family members.
