About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) - VA Surgical Quality Improvement Program (VASQIP) Quality Consultant position at the Black Hills VA Healthcare System focuses on utilizing the nursing process to ensure optimal quality review of surgical care for patients undergoing operative procedures. The role involves data collection, analysis, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to enhance the quality of surgical services provided to veterans.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Graduation from a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a state, territory, or commonwealth of the U.S.
  • Proficiency in basic written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

  • Identify surgical cases for inclusion in the National Surgery Office (NSO) database based on selection criteria.
  • Collect and enter data into the NSO database according to established definitions and timelines.
  • Analyze data and report findings to identify necessary changes in surgical services to minimize risk and improve clinical quality.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to analyze care trends and identify opportunities for quality improvement.
  • Participate in quality-related initiatives within the Surgery Service and throughout the medical center.
  • Maintain effective communication skills and serve as a consultant for VASQIP and quality-related matters.
  • Analyze clinical contents of medical records for quality and appropriateness of care issues.
  • Incorporate current research findings into the measurement and evaluation of clinical practice.
