About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a crucial role in the healthcare system by utilizing their nursing skills to effectively carry out the nursing process. This includes assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, patient and family satisfaction, documentation, and time management. The RN is responsible for maintaining quality communication, teamwork, and professionalism while leading and directing the activities of other health team personnel. They are also tasked with implementing patient teaching and quality/safety initiatives, ensuring that the standards of professional nursing are upheld at all times. In this position, the RN will be assigned to a designated area within the health system for a defined period, which will be determined by departmental needs and the RN's skills and competencies. It is important to note that assignments will change regularly and may involve multiple locations within the health system. The RN is expected to complete yearly mandatory competencies and any unit-specific competencies identified by the Director or Designee, particularly as they relate to the patient population of their assigned unit. This role requires a commitment to providing care that is competent and tailored to the cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological stages of human growth and development.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize nursing skills to carry out the nursing process including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, and documentation.
  • Ensure patient and family satisfaction through effective communication and care.
  • Direct, coordinate, and implement patient teaching and quality/safety initiatives.
  • Maintain standards of professional nursing while leading and collaborating with other health team personnel.
  • Complete yearly mandatory competencies and unit-specific competencies as required.
  • Adapt to changing assignments within the health system based on departmental needs and RN skills.

Requirements

  • Associates Nursing (RN Diploma, ASN or ADN) required; Bachelors Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of Healthcare/Medical Case Manager and/or Home Health experience preferred.
  • RN License required; must be licensed or eligible to practice in Virginia or West Virginia.
  • BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) required, must be AHA approved.
  • Competent in providing care based on the cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological stages of human growth and development.
  • Reliable means of phone communication with the hospital.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant Specialty Certification specific to practice area(s) preferred.
