About the position

Harris Health System is seeking a Registered Pharmacy Technician II for the Inpatient Pharmacy at Ben Taub Hospital. This position is crucial in ensuring the safe and effective dispensing of medications to patients under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The pharmacy technician will play a vital role in maintaining high standards of patient care, safety, and satisfaction. The technician will be responsible for preparing and dispensing prescribed medications, adhering to all relevant state, federal, and organizational regulations and guidelines. This role requires a commitment to excellence in patient service and the ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team. The pharmacy technician will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in various tasks, including but not limited to medication preparation, inventory management, and maintaining accurate records. The technician will also be involved in patient education regarding medication use and safety, ensuring that patients understand their treatment plans. The position demands strong communication skills, as the technician will frequently interact with patients, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals. Additionally, the technician must be adept in mathematical calculations and familiar with medical terminology to perform their duties effectively. This full-time position requires flexibility in scheduling, including the possibility of working weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. The technician will be part of a dynamic team at one of the leading healthcare facilities in the region, contributing to the overall mission of Harris Health System to provide quality healthcare to the community, particularly to low-income and uninsured patients.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and dispense prescribed medications under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Ensure excellence in patient care, patient safety, and patient satisfaction.
  • Adhere to all state, federal, organizational, and departmental regulations and guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate records of medication dispensing and inventory management.
  • Educate patients on medication use and safety.
  • Collaborate with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of technician competency as defined by management.
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Registered by Texas State Board of Pharmacy & in good standing.
  • Minimum 1 year experience as a Pharmacy Technician; 2 years experience preferred.
  • IV certification preferred.
  • MTM Certification preferred.
  • Above average verbal communication skills with heavy public contact.
  • Mathematics skills and knowledge of medical terms.
