About the position

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) position at Banner University Medical Center - Tucson focuses on providing respiratory care to neonates in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The role involves managing patients on oxygen and ventilators, collaborating with medical teams, and attending high-risk deliveries. The position requires working night shifts and offers a sign-on bonus for qualified candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Independently provide respiratory care and diagnostic testing to patients in various healthcare settings.
  • Perform all basic modalities of respiratory care as prescribed by physicians and licensed independent practitioners.
  • Apply and manage mechanical ventilators, recommending adjustments to improve patient comfort and expedite the weaning process.
  • Assemble, disassemble, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and clean durable medical equipment used in respiratory care.
  • Perform pulmonary and cardiology diagnostic testing as prescribed.
  • Conduct patient assessments and evaluate responses to care, making recommendations to physicians regarding the plan of care.
  • Document therapy provided accurately and completely according to established policies and procedures.
  • Communicate and collaborate with resource staff to formulate care plans and resolve problems.
  • May supervise department staff.

Requirements

  • Associate or technical degree in a related field.
  • Proof of passing the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
  • Current state license as required by state law.
  • Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification required.
  • Knowledge of clinical techniques, applications, and equipment typically obtained through one year of clinical experience.
  • Effective human relation skills necessary to interface with patients, families, and healthcare personnel.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5 years of clinical experience preferred.
  • 3 years of PICU and NICU experience preferred.
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
