About the position

The Patient Registrar at Mercy Health serves as the first point of contact for patients and the community, ensuring quality service and efficient patient registration processes. This role involves verifying patient demographics, obtaining insurance information, scheduling appointments, and maintaining accurate medical records, all while providing excellent customer service in a compassionate environment.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and the community in a respectful manner.
  • Process admission paperwork and verify basic insurance information.
  • Ensure accurate patient identity for hospital billing systems.
  • Answer internal and external calls in a friendly and helpful manner.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly.
  • Maintain patient flow and inform the Supervisor of any department and patient issues immediately.
  • Coordinate and prioritize bed placement needs for prompt patient placement.
  • Schedule appointments and transcribe orders.
  • Explain financial options to patients and update medical records accurately.

Requirements

  • High School Degree or GED
  • Basic computer skills
  • 40 WPM typing skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic math skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and ICD-9 coding preferred but not required
  • Prior experience in patient registration/healthcare preferred but not required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual skills preferred
  • Experience with ICD coding
