About the position

The Registrar at Jackson Purchase Medical Center is responsible for performing receptionist, registration, and clerical duties associated with patient admissions. This role ensures that all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information is accurately obtained and entered into the registration system. The Registrar also communicates with patients and their caregivers, explains processes, and verifies insurance benefits, contributing to a seamless admission experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform receptionist and registration duties for direct and scheduled patient admissions.
  • Ensure timely and accurate entry of demographic, billing, and clinical information into the registration system.
  • Distribute and explain forms, documents, and educational handouts to patients or family members.
  • Meet with patients or caregivers to exchange necessary information and documentation before or after admission.
  • Communicate with the admitting physician's office, nursing unit staff, and other personnel regarding admissions.
  • Verify insurance benefits and obtain precertification/authorization as necessary.
  • Determine and accept required payments, including co-pays and deductibles, or refer to financial counselors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Critical thinking skills are essential.
  • Ability to exercise decisive judgment and work with minimal supervision.
  • Capability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
