About the position

The Registrar - PRN at Jackson Purchase Medical Center is responsible for performing receptionist, registration, and clerical duties associated with patient admissions. This role ensures that all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information is accurately obtained and entered into the registration system. The Registrar also communicates with patients and their caregivers, verifies insurance benefits, and processes required payments, contributing to a seamless patient experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform receptionist, registration, and clerical duties associated with patient admissions.
  • Ensure all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information is obtained and entered in the registration system accurately and timely.
  • Distribute and explain forms, documents, and educational handouts to patients or family members.
  • Meet with patients or caregivers to exchange necessary information and documentation, providing explanations of the process and addressing concerns.
  • Communicate with the admitting physician's office, nursing unit staff, and other personnel regarding admissions to exchange necessary information and determine placement.
  • Verify insurance benefits and obtain precertification/authorization as necessary.
  • Determine and accept required payments, including co-pays and deductibles, or refer to financial counselors for follow-up.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Critical thinking skills are essential.
  • Decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision are necessary.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
