The Regular Teacher for grades 9-12 in Art at King College Prep High School is responsible for the comprehensive instruction, progress monitoring, and discipline of all students in assigned classes. Under the supervision of the school principal, the teacher will engage in instructional planning that includes the development of written lesson plans aligned with the objectives of the instructional program. The teacher will establish positive learning expectations for all students and evaluate their progress while maintaining accurate records of their achievements. In this role, the teacher will implement various instructional methods, drawing from a wide range of available materials and contemporary principles of learning theory and teaching methodology. Participation in the development and implementation of new teaching techniques is essential, as is the creation of bulletin boards and interest areas that reflect students' current work. The teacher will also be involved in programs aimed at improving student attendance and promoting anti-vandalism initiatives within the school. Classroom management is a critical aspect of this position, requiring the establishment and maintenance of reasonable rules of conduct in the classroom and on school grounds, including playgrounds, corridors, and lunchrooms, in accordance with the Chicago Public Schools' Uniform Discipline Code. The teacher will encourage student growth in self-discipline and positive self-concept while ensuring fairness in teacher-student relationships. Communication with parents and guardians regarding students' academic progress, attendance, and conduct is also a key responsibility, along with participation in in-service and professional staff meetings. The teacher may coordinate and attend class field trips and engage in extracurricular and after-school activities, utilizing community resources as appropriate.
