About the position

The Regulatory Technician at OU Health Clinics is responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory standards related to medication management and safety. This role involves conducting inspections, collaborating with healthcare staff, and maintaining documentation to uphold the integrity of pharmacy operations within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspections of patient care units and areas where medications are dispensed, administered, or stored.
  • Ensure compliance with OU Health, State, and Federal regulations, including The Joint Commission and the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Collaborate with nursing and hospital staff to address audit findings with appropriate action plans.
  • Participate in the implementation and compliance of The Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals related to medication storage.
  • Accurately report audit findings to necessary committees and leaders.
  • Ensure proper storage conditions for medications, including refrigeration and security.
  • Coordinate with pharmacy staff to improve safety and integrity of dispensing processes.
  • Provide input for policies and procedures to promote safe medication storage.
  • Maintain tracking of outdated medications and ensure proper stock rotation.
  • Ensure integrity of emergency cart locks and expiration dates.
  • Maintain organized logs, records, and documentation.
  • Prevent unsafe and unsanitary practices and conditions.
  • Check and record refrigerator temperatures.

Requirements

  • 2 years of pharmacy experience required (hospital preferred).
  • Permit as a pharmacy technician by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy within the first six weeks after placement.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician from Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within 1 year of start date.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills for developing effective working relationships.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy and medication protocols.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
