The position of Rehabilitation Teacher II involves assisting in performing mid-level rehabilitative planning and instructional work for patients with mental health challenges in a forensic and/or psychiatric setting. The role includes developing comprehensive psychoeducation and psychosocial programs, identifying clients' strengths and needs, and providing necessary instruction to help clients attain their optimum levels of independent living.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development of and independently leads activity-based functional psychoeducation and psychosocial programs.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to teach skills necessary for clients' achievement of independent living.
  • Instructs clients in wellness activities including exercise, arts and crafts, outdoor sports, coping skills, social skills, medication management, and pre-vocational skills.
  • Completes all relevant documentation in computer-based medical records as required by policy.
  • Attends all required scheduled programmatic in-services to maintain compliance with program standards.
  • Maintains work area to provide a safe, clean treatment environment for psychosocial activities.

Requirements

  • Experience in social and rehabilitative services work or in teaching and counseling persons with mental health challenges.
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in rehabilitation, psychology, sociology, social work, education, or a related field is generally preferred.
  • Ability to observe and identify significant patient behaviors and communicate and document accurately.
  • Knowledge of the rehabilitative process and skills necessary to provide relevant sessions for people with a range of abilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a forensic or psychiatric setting.
  • Knowledge of group dynamics and application to rehabilitation services.
